Teamsters ratify new contracts with YRC and ABF Freight, and a new NMF agreement

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has ratified new labour contracts with YRC Worldwide and ABF Freight, and a National Master Freight Agreement.

he Teamsters have ratified a new five-year labour contract with YRC Worldwide. This agreement covers about 50,000 dockworkers, drivers and certain other union employees of Yellow Transportation, Roadway, USF Holland and New Penn. The new National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) replaces the current agreement when it expires on March 31, 2008.
The Teamsters have also ratified a new collective bargaining agreement with ABF Freight System. This five-year labour contract will become effective on April 1, 2008.

Teamster freight members have also ratified the 2008-2013 National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) that protects existing Teamster jobs, maintains a strong wage and benefit package and provides new language to allow the largest unionised carriers a chance to better compete against the non-union competition.

The NMFA was ratified by a 67% margin. In addition, all but two of the 22 regional agreements were also ratified. The two, covering Joint Council 7 in Northern California and the Carolina Automotive Supplement, will be resolved within a week.

The Teamsters Union represents more than 1.4 million workers in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.
