Pier prang

The 79,000-dwt self-discharging bulker Edwin H Gott (built 1979) has suffered a three-foot crack in its hull after hitting a pier in the US.

The laker was docking at the Duluth port authority terminal on Friday morning when the accident happened, US reports said.

The hole was located in the ballast tank area and leaked water into the harbour.

The US Coast Guard is conducting an investigation into the incident.

The vessel, owned by Great Lakes Fleet, was completing the last voyage of the Duluth-Superior shipping season.
