Market leading logistics group DHL Global Forwarding (UK) has signed leases to occupy a 4,126 sq ft suite on the ground floor of the Grade II Listed building on the city’s waterfront.
Downing is currently spending ?10m to restore the Port of Liverpool Building to its former glory and enhance its appeal as a contemporary office space.
The company’s head of property management John Clegg said: “Following Rathbones’ commitment to a new lease last year, attracting an occupier of the calibre of DHL to the first of our refurbished suites has further justified our vision to restore this magnificent building to its rightful condition.
“We are already under way with a major programme of investment and hope to announce further lettings in the near future.”
Neil Young, of DHL Global Forwarding (UK), said: “After an extensive search for new offices in the city, the Port of Liverpool Building was the clear favourite – quality space in a building and location we know our staff and guests expect from the world- leading express and logistics company.
“We’re also pleased to have agreed a rent we know represents good value for money compared to other facilities in the city centre.”
The building’s Portland stone exterior is being repaired and cleaned and its internal terrazzo flooring and marble wall cladding restored using identical materials. New lighting, full redecoration and upgraded facilities are also being provided.
Mark Worthington, of letting agent Irving Rice, said: “This is an exciting time for this magnificent building.
“Downing are investing heavily in the fabric and common parts of the building, and are refurbishing vacant offices to the standards that occupiers of the highest quality demand.
“This includes 23,524 sq ft on the first floor that will be available fully refurbished in February.”
