The UK-flag, 22,152-gt European Endeavour (built 2000) suffered a loss of power as it was leaving the French port on Friday and struck a berth.
The subsequent damage to the ferry’s bow ‘cowcatcher’ structure, with which it hooks up to ferry terminals’ link-spans, meant a trip to Dunkirk for repairs, according to P&O.
The company says it is assessing the damage to the European Endeavour and cannot say when it will be able to return to service, while the Calais port authority is assessing the damage to the berth.
The incident is the subject of a preliminary examination by the UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
